Market days, Blooms, Lemon verbena & Warm sunshine
Living in Bordeaux is incredibly exciting. Finding my way, settling in to our life in this french city. Everyday is exciting full of the unexpected and small joys (that I often talk about sorry not sorry) This morning I pedalled through the park, under the avenue of chestnut trees and out by towards the long stretching curves of the River Garonne.

This is my market run, a ritual and very much part of my routine here in Bordeaux. The comforting yet exciting chorus of traders calling out the sweetness of their strawberries, offering their cherries to try, someone laughing near the fishmonger’s stand. Waving me over to talk to me about the herbs of the season. Summer days are here warm with sunshine and plentiful ingredients. I leave the market with some peony stems, first-of-the-season broad beans, peas to pod and a bundle of lemon verbena.
Inside today’s newsletter you will find a simple summer recipe I return to every year using the happy herb verbena and other ways to use it in your kitchen. At this time of year verbena is easily found in nurseries or market stalls. I have planted it in my garden and it is thriving.
